Clayton PrattClayton started his DJ career with Jimmy Rainbows Rainbow Heart Discotheque inthe clubs and pubs all over Scotland back in the mid 70s.He moved to Newcastle to the famous Tuxedo Junction on Market Street where heperformed his unique style of presenting to a jazz-funk and R&B audience. He left Newcastle in the 80s to seek his fortune in the States and eventually got ajob as a radio presenter on a radio station in Annapolis, Maryland playing music ona Saturday night.Arriving back later to the UK he thought he had left the music scene behind him onlyto meet up with Jimmy Rainbow again years later, and be invited to join Leith FM.He started here in August 2009 and now presents a weekly Saturday night showcalled Soul Stream, playing the very best in Soul, Reggae and Jazz Funk.He is building up a popular listeners base and hopes to bring some surprises as wellas a slightly different approach to local radio.
Music Routes
Music Routes
Music Routes is presented by Jim Welsh, Ralph MacGillivray and Sarah Cairncross.Jim is Secretary of Leith Folk Club, and previously was Secretary of Edinburgh Jazz Projects, and through these and other organizations has been responsible for 70 - 120 gigs a year of varying sizes in Leith and Edinburgh for more years than he cares to (or can!) remember. He has also written for several specialist music magazines.Ralph was born and raised in the Highlands of Scotland. He has worked in a variety of capacities in the music business, and has spent a lifetime hunting out and enjoying all kinds of music in a live setting and on record. He joined the Music Routes team when his eldest son Ryan - our erstwhile Glamorous Assistant - moved on to university.Sarah Cairncross first appeared as a guest, decided to apply for the post of Glamorous Assistant, and before we knew it, she was part of the show. She has a great love of music and (she says!) the perfect face for radio. When not at Leith FM, she is a make-up artist for film, tv, theatre, advertising and music videos, an artist who exhibits paintings of varying subjects that include dead rockstars and Edinburgh cityscapes and is a promo' photographer for musicians, boxers and various business clients. She enjoys a pint and is a keen supporter of all the performing arts!It could be said that the idea of Music Routes is that it endeavours to cover the various routes taken by traditional celtic, European and American music, through the African influences of blues and jazz, on through rock'n'roll to what has been termed "world music" (like it's going to come from somewhere else?) But to tell you the truth, it's just a celebration of the genuine talents to be found both here and abroad, while we have a good time. An ideal show is one where everyone listening hears and enjoys something or someone they've never heard before. So trust us, we know what we're doing, honest.

Lawrence Lettice
Lawrence Lettice
LAWRENCE LETTICE - Writer and presenter of "Lawrence's Magnificent Movie Music" - every Friday night at 9pm on LEITH FM 98.8 Born in 1957, I have been an avid "movie fan" from a very early age (probably around the age of 4/5) and became fascinated with the cinema (and in particular the music from the movies) whilst growing up as a boy in Edinburgh. After leaving school, I joined BBC Radio Scotland - at their now defunct radio studios at 5 Queen Street - in 1974 as an office junior, and after a variety of different roles with the "Beeb" I left (actually made redundant) in March 2002. During my time there, I participated and contributed to a number of film-themed radio projects for both BBC Scotland and BBC Radio 4.Many producers approached me to provide them with background material and research, whenever a programme required an authoritative voice on film history. And since I was already on their books (as well as being comparatively cheaper than some so called experts!) my knowledge was utilised on a number of occasions. During my time there, I also met and came into contact with several leading figures of the world of film including: Lord Richard Attenborough, James Mason, Sir John Mills, Sir Peter Ustinov, Eli Wallach, Cliff Robertson, Andre De Toth, Alexander Knox, Laurence Payne, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam, Barry Norman, and not forgetting a certain American actor/director called...Clint Eastwood. In 1994 I was invited to appear as a resident late-night guest on a radio show with SCOT FM, when they had their own studios down on the shore near Leith docks.Every Saturday night for about 18 months, I and my colleague, actor/broadcaster Iain Agnew, would open up the phone lines for the listening public to attempt to beat me with a question on the movies - with cinema tickets as prizes! It was great light-hearted fun, and very entertaining (at least for me!) although because we were broadcasting way past the "twilight zone", this, more often than not, did present the odd "inebriated gentleman" from calling us up to tell us all of his troubles!! Anyway, it sadly all came to an end, but I have very fond memories of those evenings spent in a radio studio in Leith!Which neatly brings me up to date! Since June 2011, the good people at LEITH FM have kindly given me the opportunity to present my very own radio programme, that profiles the great movie composers, and focuses on the wonderful world of film music - past and present. This has been a dream come true for me, and it has given me the opportunity to play some fabulous movie-music, (as well as tell the odd story about the films and stars that feature), for the listeners in Leith, as well as many people further afield. I hope I can continue for some time to bring a different - but no less important - musical sound to LEITH FM 98.8
