As your local community radio station, Leith FM understands the enormous challenges presently faced by all Leith businesses. We have interviewed many local business people about the continuing problems.

We have heard time and again that part of the problem is that customers don’t know that despite the current chaos, businesses are trading as usual; or customers simply ‘forget’ that businesses are still there behind the cones, fences, and barriers.

To help support the local business community, Leith FM has cut its rates for on-air advertisements and sponsorships. You can now afford to ‘talk’ to your customers on your local community station, to let them know you are definitely ‘open for business!

Advertising on Leith FM

Leith FM has a potential ‘reach’ of at least 140,000 listeners in the Leith and North Edinburgh area. We also stream our programmes live on the Internet.

Advertising your business, organisation, or service on Leith FM not only delivers your message to the North Edinburgh and Leith community, it also demonstrates your support for the station and helps us to pay our bills and keep the station on the air.

To book an ad. on Leith FM, all we need to know is:

• How many versions of your ads. (one or more?)
• How many spots (see below) of airtime?
• When do you want to book your airtime?

Your Ads.

To advertise on Leith FM, you need to supply us with one or more ‘broadcast ready’ ads. (of 30 seconds length, ideally); or we can script and make ads. for you at a total production cost of £50 per version.

Making two or more versions of your ad. allows you, for example, to use different ads. on different days (‘This week…,’ ‘On Saturday…,’ ‘Today…,’ etc.).

Your Spots

A spot is a single playout of one of your ads. on air. We usually sell airtime in packages of 35×30 second spots, which equals five spots a day for one week (Monday to the following Sunday).

We sell airtime for ‘odd’ spots instead of packages
—for example, ten spots per day on three successive days, or five spots per day on Fridays and Saturdays only—at pro rata rates.

Your Airtime

During daytime (0700–2200), we play two ad. breaks an hour. We usually schedule your spots evenly so that they play approximately once every three hours.

For a small extra cost, we can schedule your spots at specific times of day, or in specific shows, subject to availability of spots on those times and dates.

Sponsorship on Leith FM

For maximum exposure for your business or message, sponsor a show on Leith FM. Sponsors are named every time the show is mentioned on air, including in trails, jingles, and live promos during other shows (‘…and at eight tonight, the Fred Bloggs Show, sponsored by Peachy Auto Repairs…’).

Radio is a completely unique media in the way it’s consumed. Radio is listen to whilst you’re getting ready for work, in the car doing the school run, in the office or brushing the dog, the radio is on and and this makes it a powerful advertising tool.

What this means is advertisers can get their message to the potential customer, as they leave to go to the shops, just as they’ve discovered that the coffee has run out, or at that moment when you are trying to decide how you’re going to spend your evening, the pictures, a meal or a night clubbing. The penetration into people’s lives by radio is unique in being so close to the point of purchase decision this makes radio one of the most effective advertising media available today.
